When else have the likes of Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson shared the spotlight?
Now Canadian-born performer and producer Dail Platz, along with Gold Coast-Tweed residents Paul Mostyn and Brent Lillie, has recreated the magic that is The Highwaymen. The Highwaymen have a unique connection to Australia. They toured in 1991 and 1995, playing Newcastle, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane, attracting hundreds of thousands to their concerts and generating enormous excitement among fans. "This is a tribute in the true sense of the word," Dail said. "Putting the show together, we had an almost overwhelming amount of great material to choose from. The Highwaymen also recorded songs by other artists like Steve Earle and Bob Seger, and we have included these in the show as well." Featuring acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle and harmonica, The Highwaymen Tribute Show isn't just a few guys and a backing tape. Murwillumbah-born Brent, who performs as Kris Kristofferson in the show, said the tribute was largely based on the groups 1990 DVD – right down to their desert backdrop. The 'Men in Black' rifle coats and hats are an added touch that has really hit the mark with audiences. "Most of the apparel we wear is especially imported from the U.S. but we don't try to be cardboard cutouts – it's all about the music," he said. One of the most remarkable things about the show is that while Brent is Kristofferson and Paul takes on Jennings, the multi-talented Dail multi-tasks in the roles of both Nelson and Cash. "There are a couple of songs where both Willie and Johnny are on stage," Brent said. “Willie actually starts the Highwayman song and Johnny does the fourth verse. While we (Brent and Paul) are singing, he discreetly changes from Willie to Johnny." "We thought there might be a problem with us having three people doing four roles but we haven't had one complaint. It just seems to work and crowds really love it." All the Highwaymen's best songs are included: "Desperadoes", "Waiting for a Train", "Live Forever", "Highwayman" and more, along with individual classics like "Luckenbach Texas", "On the Road Again", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Ring of Fire" and "Help Me Make It Through The Night". All up, the Highwaymen Tribute Show plays 40 classic songs. www.highwaymenshow.com November 13 2008 JEFF BROWN, LYN BROWN, and RICKY SHIPP SHOW at Marburg - November 30 Winner of many awards, including a GOLDEN GUITAR, Jeff Brown will be performing for you along with the talents of his wife Lyn, and the legendary lead guitarist RICKY SHIPP, The show is on Sunday the 30th of November at the MARBURG SHOW HALL commencing at 2pm. On Tour
Hope y'all are well! I got back from NSW / VIC a couple of weeks ago and had an absolute blast! The NSW gigs were fantastic, especially the ones with Drew. We then drove from Sydney to Mildura VIC (13 hrs). For me, it was great to see that part of the country by car. The festival was great - 2 shows a day for 10 days - very full on but a great experience and really well organised. So many people and fantastic audiences! It was also really cool to catch up with all the other artists too. Most of us usually only get to see each other maybe once a year so it was good. I've posted a few pics on myspace page.. good times. I'm heading back to WA this week for the Bridgetown Blues Festival on Fri 7th & Sat 8th Nov and then a gig at the Perth Blues Club (Charles Hotel) on Tues 11th Nov. It's really exciting for me to be invited to perform at these gigs and I'm really looking forward to playing material from my album. At Bridgetown, I'll be playing with a great friend of mine and awesome guitarist Matt Whitton. We haven't played together for a few years so I'm really looking forward to it! At the Blues Club, I'll have my 'one night only band' again. Mick Burn on drums, Russell Prior & Matt Bartel on guitars and Simon Fisendon on bass. What a talented bunch of players..Can't wait! So if you're around in WA and can come and catch a gig, I'd love to see you. Fundraiser CD for 'Suicide Awareness' Also, thanks for the support with our Suicide Awareness fundraiser EP "Reach Out". If you don't have a copy yet, you can purchas for $15 + $4 postage (within Australia) and are available from: www.suicideawareness.com.au I'll also have CD's available at my gigs. Coming Up Keep your ear out for my new single to be released to radio next month via NfS 127. Well thats about all for now. Take care and I hope to see you at a gig very soon!
